INSPIRATIONS: UK
FOLLOWED BY A SPECIAL EVENT WITH MALCOLM LE GRICE
SAT 07 FEB 2009 | 2 PM | admission FREE
Inspirations is a three year programme which considers the contributions individuals and their work have made toward contemporary artist's film and video. In its inaugural year VIVID has invited five UK based individuals who have played a major role in the critical, artistic and curatorial development of artists' film and video to select one moving image work that has made a significant impact on their own practice. 2009 selectors include David Curtis, Catherine Elwes, Malcolm Le Grice, John Smith and Sarah Wood.
The diverse selections of work span 1923 to 1987 and include work by Man Ray and Margaret Tait to reflect the breadth of influences within film and video. Presented at VIVID on Saturday 07 February 2009 from 2pm, this unmissable screening will be accompanied by an illustrated brochure including texts by each of the selectors.
Over the course of three years the selectors will be invited from Europe (2009) and International (outside Europe) in 2010. Their choices will reflect a broad range of international interests and work that is, or has been, of significance to contemporary curation, practice and art criticism.
To coincide with the launch of Inspirations, VIVID is delighted to announce that artist Malcolm Le Grice will present a selection of his own works following the Inspirations screenings. Le Grice is an exponent of experimental artists' film and video practice and theory and has made a huge contribution to the artistic and critical profile of the UK's art scene.
